Emery fined for charges of improper conduct at Brighton

Unai Emery has been fined £8000 by the Football Association (FA) after pleading guilty to the charges of improper conduct for kicking a bottle towards the fans in Arsenal’s -1 draw against Brighton and Hove Albion.

The incident occurred in the latter stages of the 1-1 draw after Emery was left frustrated by what he called ‘ a bad action’ from one of his players. The bottle accidentally touched one of the Brighton’s supporters, prompting an immediate apology from the Spaniard before he personally apologised to the fan for the second time after the full-time whistle.

“It wasn’t hard, but it touched one supporter for them. I said to them ‘I’m sorry’,” Emery told reporters after the game.

A statement from the FA on Monday read: “Arsenal manager Unai Emery has been fined £8,000 after he admitted an FA improper conduct charge and accepted the standard penalty.

“It concerned his conduct during the game against Brighton on 26 December 2018.”

The fine sums up a bad week for Unai Emery who is currently under the cosh following Arsenal’s 5-1 drubbing at the hands of Liverpool. The Gunners will be looking to get back to winning ways when they play host to Fulham on New Year’s Day.
