Emery praises Ozil in Arsenal’s win over Cardiff City

Arsenal bagged all three points on what was an emotional night at the Cardiff City Stadium as goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette helped the Gunners to a 2-1 victory.

Cardiff striker Bobby Reid sent a couple of efforts wide in the first half before Aubameyang’s goal from the penalty spot and Lacazette’s strike seven minutes from time sealed the deal for the visitors, with Nathaniel Mendez-Laing getting a very late consolation for the Bluebirds.

Mesut Ozil, who started his first game since Boxing Day, was one of the seven changes that Unai Emery made to his team and the German got himself into the history books, creating the 500th goalscoring chance of his Premier League career.

And Unai Emery was quite happy with the playmaker’s efforts on the pitch.

“He worked like we wanted,” Emery said. “It was good.”

“We are happy,” Emery added. “The difference in the match was small details.

“We struggled a lot in this much but it’s a very important three points. Newcastle won, Burnley drew with Manchester United and we won.

“We played better in the second half, controlled the match and created more chances to score.

“Overall I think we deserved the result in the second half. We worked how we wanted. We are doing things our way and we are happy because our players worked a lot.”
