Emery prepared to give youngsters a chance in the Carabao Cup tie on Wednesday

Arsenal manager Unai Emery is confident that the Gunners can bounce back from their 3-2 defeat at the hands of Southampton in the Premier League when they lock horns with Spurs in the quarterfinals of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.

The Gunners’ unbeaten run of 22 games came to an end on Sunday as a resurgent Southampton unit under their new manager Ralph Hasenhuttl shocked the north Londoners. Arsenal will have their work cut out against Spurs but Emery has hinted that he might give some of the younger players a taste of the north London derby.

Emery has been impressive with his man management since he took charge at Arsenal, rotating the squad and handing debuts to players like Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka in the group stages of the Europa League. With Arsenal set to face Burnley in the Premier League at the weekend, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Emery rely on youth to propel his team to the last four of the competition.

“Our first idea is that we play with the best players that we can use in this derby,” Emery told a news conference on Tuesday.

“The opposition is very big and it’s demanding a big performance from us tomorrow.

“We can use some young players because we think with a big performance, they can help us win.

“Sunday for us is a big reality check in our way. We need to improve and also we need to continue doing our way in our process.

“It’s not a good result but this reality gives us more motivation to continue to work hard, finding a new thing to work on each day, and also it makes us demand a lot from ourselves in the way we work on this way.”
