Liverpool's Emre Can scores wonder goal in Germany win

In a surprise move for the German national team, former Liverpool player Emre Can has been called up to the German Euro 2024 squad.

This opportunity took place as a result of the tragic withdrawal of Bayern Munich’s promising star, Aleksandar Pavlovic, who fell ill just days before the competition began.

Pavlovic, just 20, recently obtained his international debut in a goalless draw against Ukraine, showing potential and winning a place in Germany’s squad.

However, an infection kept him out of Germany’s 2-1 victory over Greece on June 7, and his chances of recuperating were crushed, forcing him to withdraw from the competition entirely.

Can, who now plies his trade with Borussia Dortmund, steps in as a seasoned replacement. The 30-year-old has enjoyed a stellar season, even captaining his side in the Champions League final at Wembley.

His experience, with 43 international caps to his name, will be a vital asset to the German Euro squad.

Head coach Julian Nagelsmann emphasized the importance of Can’s experience, saying, “We want another six in the squad and have therefore decided to re-nominate Emre Can. He immediately expressed his enthusiasm and willingness to join the team.

We wanted to have another player in the squad who has played a lot of games, who knows how to deal with the pressure. He can well meet the profile that we can use now.”

Can’s enthusiasm and readiness to jump into action reflect his commitment and passion for representing his country on the big stage once again.

As Germany prepares for their opening match against Scotland, fans will undoubtedly look to Can’s leadership and experience to guide the team through the tournament.
