England and France Combined XI

The two teams clash at Wembley on Tuesday

Both sides have a plethora of fantastic players they can select from for their upcoming fixture against each other.

But, if we could choose some of the best players from each side to put into a team, here is who we would pick!

GK – Hugo Lloris

The Tottenham keeper has been one of Spurs’ best players so far this season and he remains one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League. The 28-year old continues to impress most weeks at White Hart Lane and he deserves his place in this Combined XI.

RB – Bacary Sagna

Fotboll, landskamp, Frankrike - Brasilien

Again, I’ve gone with the French option here. Sagna may be 32 but he is still a top defender for both Man City and for his country.

Kyle Walker is also having a great season and has rightly found himself playing more for England. However, I think Sagna just edges him out and he gets the starting RB place in this team.

CB – Chris Smalling

Fotboll, Champions League, Manchester United - Wolfsburg

The Man United defender has been on fire this season for the Red Devils, becoming one of their best players. He’s slowly becoming a leader and I wouldn’t be surprised if he ended up as United’s next captain.

He is a tremendous asset to have in any side and he still has a ton of his career left yet to train and get even better. One of the best centre-backs in the Premier League and thoroughly deserving of his place in this side.

CB – Laurent Koscielny

koscielny

Koscielny is another defender who is currently performing superbly for his club and country. The Arsenal defender has truly shone at the back for the Gunners this year and not only does he defend well and make a lot of vital interceptions but he has also been known to pop up with a goal at the other end too.

Cahill has had a rather average season so far so misses out, as does Terry. It was a tough choice to leave Varane out but I feel Koscielny is the better of the two French CB’s at the minute (going off current form – Varane is another who certainly has a bright future).

LB – Patrice Evra

He may be 34 but Patrice Evra is still an integral part of the French national side and he still proves to not only be a defensive asset but an attacking threat too.

Age hasn’t affected his runs down the wing, as he still continues to run up and down that left flank to whip in killer crosses for his team-mates to connect with. He’s also extremely strong in the air and a valuable player to have in most sides, as he also brings years of top-level experience with him from England and Italy.
