Roy Hodgson has revealed he is still saddned by his sacking from the Liverpool job. His side weren’t very successful under his guidence, as they endured a poor run of league reults and were knocked out of the Carling Cup by League two side, Northampton Town.

He was replaced after six months by Kenny Dalglish in January 2011 but still feels hurt by the abrupt end to his Anfield job. he told the Mirror: “Even now. I’m still sad about the situation,”

“I went to Liverpool thinking it would be a long-term job and maybe it could take me to the end of my career if I spent a lot of time there.”

After re-building his career with West Brom, he landed the England job in May 2012, beating Spurs manager Harry Redknapp to the position. The fact that he will lead England forward in Brazil next year means he perhaps has less regrets as he may have done.

“It’s strange how things work – it’s now led to me being England manager, so maybe I don’t have quite the same regrets,”

“That said, nothing can dismiss the memory of what happened at Liverpool. It’s important to remember the bad times, as well as the good times.”
