Ernesto Valverde is set to tie himself to another year as the Barcelona manager has agreed to sign a one year extension. The club also has the option to extend it by another year.
The Spaniard signed a two year deal as Barcelona decided to hire his service following the departure of Luis Enrique from the club. The former Athletic Bilbao manager led the club to a double of La Liga and Copa del Rey in his first season.
But the Catalan giants failed to make a mark in the Champions League having lost to AS Roma in the quarter finals. Questions were also raised on his tactical awareness and game reading sense but time and time he has proved the club is in his safe hands.
Valverde is expected to complete the formality today and will then address the media prior to Barcelona’s match against Real Valladolid. A win would ensure the league leaders stay on top of the table with a healthy six points lead from Real Madrid.
The Catalans are due to meet Lyon in the Champions League next week as Valverde aims to rectify his mistakes once again.
