Lionel Messi could play a part in the Champions League encounter against Inter Milan, manager Ernesto Valverde has confirmed.
Messi was a part of the travelling contingent although he hasn’t been cleared by the Barcelona medical department. The Argentine superstar fractured his arm in the La Liga win over Sevilla and was expected to be on the sidelines for a prolonged period.
But the Barcelona forward seemed to have made an unexpected recovery and returned to training just after 11Â days. Messi is expected to be in the match day squad for the crucial match but it remains to be seen whether the gaffer takes the risk to field his most valuable player or decides to rest him.
Valverde admits the player is available for selection but he still needs to make a decision before the game. “Leo is at the point where he might be available, but we have to wait for the training session. We have to see if he’s safe to play,”
“In terms of his play and his movements, he’s fine. We have to wait. … It’s always better if he’s there. Of course it’s necessary to get Messi back as soon as possible.
“There are three or four possibilities. One is that he plays from the start, or he comes on, or he goes off. What we won’t do is take any risks.”
