Benfica set up Mourinho meeting

Benfica made their interest in Jose Mourinho public this week.

Earlier this week Benfica president Luis Felipe Vieira said that money would definitely be not an issue if Mourinho agreed to join the Portuguese giants.

“Who would not like to have Mourinho? If he says yes tomorrow, he’ll be here at the drop of a hat,” Vieira told Portuguese broadcaster SIC. It seems that Benfica are rather desperate to land Jose. They fired their coach Rui Vitoria last week after three and a half years. In his spell at Benfica, Vitoria won two league titles, one cup title, two Portuguese super cups and one league cup.

Despite such a great success, the club parted ways with him because Benfica were on a poor run of form this season. They are 7 points off the top and more importantly FC Porto are the ones ahead, their arch-rivals.

Latest reports are confirming that Benfica are arranging a meeting to meet up with the recently sacked boss, Mourinho. Mourinho started his coaching career in Portugal when he led FC Porto to the league and the European title. He then toured Chelsea(twice), Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Manchester United. Only time will tell if Jose will take up this offer.
