England suffer another injury blow

Everton defender Phil Jagielka has pulled out of the England squad for their games against Malta and Slovenia.

The Toffees star suffered a thigh injury, which is not thought to be serious enough to keep him out for a prolonged length of time.

The FA have insisted that no immediate replacement will be called up to replace Jagielka.

There have been a few injury problems within the Three Lions camp to concern interim manager Gareth Southgate, as he enters the first of his four-game spell in charge.

Nathaniel Clyne was originally called up, he suffered an injury and was replaced by Glen Johnson. Johnson himself then withdrew, replaced by Michael Keane. Jagielka’s injury may well increase the probability of a surprise start for Keane, with Gary Cahill also not a hundred per cent, suffering with a sore throat.

Andros Townsend was drafted into the squad earlier this week, after Raheem Sterling went down with a calf injury during Manchester City’s defeat to Tottenham last weekend.
