Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City were the overwhelming favorites against Arsenal in the FA Cup semi final.

However, when the match ended 2-0 in Arsenal’s favour, you could not call it a lucky escape but a rather just showing of what happened for 90 minutes.

City might have had all of the ball but it was Arsenal who made more clear cut chances. They looked sharply drilled in defence and conceded few open chances and kept their composure and shape at all times. What is even more, every time they got the ball, they made it count and effectively counter-attacked City and could have ended up with more than 2 goals on the night.

City looked toothless and without a plan B as Guardiola’s former protege Mikel Arteta got one over his boss tactically with a much weaker side on paper.

“We didn’t make a good performance, we were not ready enough,” Guardiola told BT Sport.

”If you don’t play for 90mins in a semi-final this can happen. We didn’t play good, we are human beings. The opponent played good, sometimes it happens.

“The only regret is that we didn’t play the first half like we played the second one. We had to change the setup but we couldn’t do it.”
