Jose Mourinho has hailed Petr Cech as a player and said his retirement will be a big loss to football.

The duo worked together at Chelsea when they both joined the Stamford Bridge revolution in 2004. Jose gave Petr the number one jersey and made him his first choice keeper ahead of Carlo Cudicini.

The decision turned out be immaculate as Cech went on to win every club trophy available in Europe with Chelsea.

Mourinho said: “I am honoured to have been the manager that, at such an early age, gave Petr a top Premier League number one shirt. After that day, it is all about him. All about his numbers, his performances, his clean sheets, his titles and his professionalism. It’s a big loss for football but history can’t be deleted. Many congratulations on such an amazing career.”

Cech left Chelsea for Arsenal in the 2014-15 season after the arrival of Thibaut Courtois. He provided some exceptional performances for the Gunners as well and went on to become one of the leaders in the dressing room owing to his experience.

The player has announced that he will be hanging up his boots at the end of the current season.
