An agreement has now been confirmed by a statement on Aston Villa’s official website.

Villa sacked Steven Gerrard last Thursday after a disappointing Premier League campaign so far. Mauricio Pochettino and Thomas Tuchel were the front-runners to take this job. They initially targeted Sporting CP’s highly-rated boss Ruben Amorim.
Villa opened talks with intermediaries and Amorim’s representatives late last week, and their initial conversations suggested that he was open to agreeing to a deal.
But, after further talks were not as positive, Villa turned to Villarreal boss Emery, and an agreement has now been confirmed by a statement on the club’s official website.
