Dyche believes some of the referee’s calls went against his team
Burnley manager Sean Dyche was absolutely livid with the officials for adding five minutes of injury time which allowed Manchester United to equalise.
The Clarets looked set for their biggest win of the season, thanks to second-half goals from Ashley Barnes and Chris Wood, before referee John Moss awarded the hosts with a penalty when Jeff Hendricks tugged Jesse Lingard inside the box. Paul Pogba halved the deficit from the penalty spot before some late drama turned the tables in United’s favour.
“The frustration is a mystery five minutes,” Dyche said. “I was confused by that, I thought it gave the crowd a lift and gave more energy to their side. “I don’t like to see penalties when they touch you on the shoulder and all of a sudden your legs don’t work, I’m not a fan of that, but we know that happens.
Victor Lindelof scored the injury-time equaliser to rescue a point for the Red Devils but Dyche was of the opinion that the Swedish international was in an offside position to take his chance.
“And unfortunately the tight calls went against us tonight. Sanchez wins the first header on their second goal, Heaton makes a save and I think Lindelof is offside to finish it off.
“But tonight is not about that, it’s about coming here against a side that are absolutely rolling and getting a well-earned point.”
“The last five we’ve been excellent,” Dyche added. “I think we’ve got back to a high-performance level in our world. It’s difficult to come here and perform, which we did tonight.
“Our bravery is returning. We’ve got to keep doing it, of course, but there are really good signs at the moment.
I was saying before Christmas I thought our performances were rising, beginning to build into what we’re about.”
