Blues owner could be targeting Eden Hazard replacement
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has made contact with Lazio over a potential move for winger Antonio Candreva.
The 28-year-old could be tempted away from the Rome-based club after losing the opportunity to captain Lazio to Argentine teammate Lucas Biglia. Meaning, Abramovich would likely be able to tempt the Italy international to Stamford Bridge.
Abramovich has put in a personal call to the Italian outfit, to discuss a potential move that will bring the former Juventus man to Stamford Bridge.
Last season’s PFA Player of the Year, Eden Hazard, has been linked with a move to Real Madrid and Candreva could be seen as the Belgian’s potential replacement.
Agent hints at move
After Candreva’s upset at not being given captaincy at Lazio, the former Udinese man could be prepared to test himself in the Premier League, with his agent, Federico Pastorello, hinting he could end his three-and-a-half year spell at the Stadio Olimpico.
“Considering Antonio’s path [at the club], I thought he deserved recognition and different consideration,” Pastorello said.
“He will continue with his work as he always has, but he can’t hide the deep disappointment.
“Every summer there are four or five clubs that ask for Candreva, even important clubs playing in the Champions League, but an appointment was never made with them.”
The winger can run at defenders and his dribbling ability and pace cause chaos to opposition defences, with Candreva also possessing a threat from set pieces.
