Koulibaly to Chelsea what’s the hold up? You won’t believe the answer!

It has been revealed that although Napoli want to keep their defender, Kalidou Koulibaly they have contingency plans in place in case he does leave. Napoli have revealed that he has not actually signed a new contract yet. That leaves a small window for Chelsea to exploit before the end of the transfer window in nine days time. Chelsea have focused almost entirely on Koulibaly to solve their defensive problems. They have only five fit defenders. Four of them need to play every game, so only one in reserve is very worrying for Antonio Conte.

Kalidou Koulibaly
Koulibaly, Chelsea’s prime defensive target

Chelsea cannot afford to have another frustrating summer transfer window when it comes to defenders. Last summer they tried to woo John Stones over to the club, making at least three large bids. All of these were fought off by Martinez at Everton. This summer without Martinez, Stones has left the club in a flash! So although Chelsea have a new popular manager on board with apparently ÂŁ140 million to spend…. why won’t the deal go through?

Koulibaly seems up for it. Chelsea have offered a record breaking ÂŁ60 million for the Senegal international defender. So where is the hold up? The answer which no one expected is….. Chelsea! In this case they have become their own worst enemy!

maksimovic
Maksimovic…..to Napoli or Chelsea?

Napoli have targeted Torino defender, Nikola Maksimovic as a possible replacement for Koulibaly. That’s fine you may be thinking, so where is the problem? Torino have announced that another club are also interested in their defender. And that club is….. of course, Chelsea. So while Chelsea were getting frustrated with the long drawn out process to bring Koulibaly to West London, they have recently started a back up plan with Maksimovic as the target.

Ironically it means that because Chelsea are speaking to Torino about Maksimovic, Torino cannot promise anything to Napoli and consequently Napoli will fight to hold onto Koulibaly.

The answer of course would be for all three clubs to sit down and work out the deals between them, confusing eh!
