Chelsea captain John Terry could miss the Blues’ league opener through injury.

The former England defender was forced out of their 4-2 victory over Werder Bremen after suffering a blow to the head.

Chelsea start their Premier League campaign against West Ham United at Stamford Bridge on 15 August.

Terry signed a new contract earlier this year, but could be set for a reduced role with Chelsea this season.

Blues boss Antonio Conte is rumoured to be in the market for a new central defender. Despite this, Conte, in his first press conference as manager, confirmed Terry would continue as skipper.

Terry, likewise, has been praising the Italian since his arrival in London.

“He’s been very good since he came in, he’s brought new ideas and new methods and we’re adapting well to it,” the skipper told the club’s official website.
“At times throughout the tour we’ve played well and consistently so I’m sure he’ll be pleased but there’s always room for improvement.”

Terry, 35, has a history of receiving knocks to the head. He was accidentally kicked in the face by Abou Diaby during the 2007 League Cup Final against Arsenal. He nearly swallowed his tongue, and was taken to hospital.

He has made over 700 appearances for the club since 1998.
