Leicester City boss Claude Puel explains the reason behind not selecting Jamie Vardy in the starting lineup in their 1-1 draw with West Ham United.

There have been reports of Puel having his bit of problems with the forward but the former Southampton manager seemed to have moved on from the situation. Following the death of Leicester owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha the matter got suppressed under the tragic incident.

Srivaddhanaprabha was in the helicopter alongside four others which crashed outside the King Power stadium just after the last match. It is not yet confirmed whether the Foxes will travel to Wales to face Cardiff City in their next match or give it a miss as a tribute to their late owner.

Puel said, “I took the decision about my player and tried to have players with a possibility to play at 100 per cent. He had a digestive problem against Arsenal.

“He could not work in a training session two days later and he came back step by step. It was a good opportunity to protect him in the first half and use him in the second half to push, to help us to score.

“He was not far away from scoring. For me, it was a good feeling, a good decision.

“I’m here to protect players. All the players want to play all the time, but I took my decision normally.”
