Crystal Palace announce Lucas Perri signing

Crystal Palace have announced the signing of goalkeeper Lucas Perri, on loan from Brazilian club Sao Paulo FC. The Eagles have an option to turn this temporary move into a permanent one.

Palace have been terribly unlucky with injuries in the goalkeeping department. Injuries to Vicente Guaita and Wayne Hennessey meant club veteran Julian Speroni took the gloves in their previous league game against Liverpool at Anfield.

The 39-year-old made a mistake in that game, when instead of palming a cross away, he miscued his move to allow Mohamed Salah to tap in from a yard into an open net.

Hence, signing Perri is fantastic from the Eagles’ viewpoint. The Brazilian is also very happy to join such a big club and has a chance to play in the Premier League.

Speaking to the club’s official website, he said: “It’s an amazing feeling, I’m really glad to join the club. Two months ago, I knew [about] the possibility to join Palace.

“Since then, I was pretty anxious to be here because I really wanted that. It’s huge, it’s a really important thing to me. It’s the opportunity of my life and I’m going to do whatever it takes.”
When asked about his style of goalkeeping, Perri replied: “I really like to protect the goal, it’s the most important thing for the goalie.
“Today goalkeepers have to play with their feet. Safety is everything though, it’s the security for the team; to gain the team’s trust is the most important thing.

“It’s tougher in England, here the game you need more strength to play. The focus needs to be higher I think.”
