Arsene Wenger blocks goalkeeper’s move to Turkish club

David Ospina has been denied a move to Turkish side Besiktas by Arsene Wenger, according to reports.

It’s thought that Ospina craves the thought of regular 1st team action and would jump at the chance to leave Arsenal for the remainder of the season, with him fearing that a lack of 1st team football would result in him losing his place in the Columbia squad when the World Cup in 2018 arrives.

However, with Wojciech Szczesny already out on-loan at Roma, boss Arsene Wenger will not sanction a move for Ospina to depart the club.

Ospina looked to have a future at Arsenal having played 18 consecutive Premier League fixtures last year, but following the arrival of former Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech, that future seems to have disappared, and that combined with a shoulder injury has left him constantly sat on the bench.

But Wenger has backed Ospina to one day replace Petr Cech as Arsenal’s first-choice goalkeeper.

He said: “I think he can be the goalkeeper of the future here as well.

“I personally think he is world-class. I did not take Petr Cech based on the performances of Ospina.”
