Another day of Premier League action saw Manchester United stumble once again, and Chelsea make it ten league games unbeaten.
Here are five things learned from today’s games:
- LVG = Louis Van Gone?
Today’s defeat to Sunderland saw Manchester United take another disappointing step backwards. Prior to this game, Louis van Gaal, claimed, unbelievably, that United could still win the league. Erm, no. And even the top four is looking more and more distant. Even more so if neighbours City take something off Tottenham. If they do, the gap would be seven, or even nine, points. That would be very hard to bridge.
2. Why did Chelsea’s season not start until 19 December?
The Blues have certainly been revitalised since that date, now ten league games unbeaten after thumping Newcastle. Even Diego Costa is interested, and back among the goals. Maybe he should keep the mask for a while, and maybe even invest in some for teammates, if it means more performances like this one……
3. Dimitri Payet’s new deal already looks like a good bit of business
Payet has definitely played his part in why the Hammers sit where they do in the table. He signed a new deal in the week, and has already started repaying the fee. Was largely ineffective against Norwich, but, like all good players, produced one moment of quality when needed.
4. Stoke’s strength in depth may be about to be tested
The Potteries club suffered a double injury scare, losing Marc Muniesa and Glen Johnson. With boss Mark Hughes preferring to keep forwards on the bench, might he have to adjust his plans so he has cover at the back?
5. Emmanuel Adebayor could prove to be a shrewd signing for Palace
The striker has proven Premier League experience, albeit at the other end of the table with Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester City. While not used to life lower down the table, a goal on his first home start for his new club he certainly a good start.
