Neither Leeds fans nor Villa fans will be particularly thrilled by Marcelo Bielsa’s name.

Journalist Ben Jacobs admits that former Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa could be in line to take over the managerial role at Aston Villa.

Aston Villa recently sacked their head coach Steven Gerrard after the club’s disappointing defeat to Fulham. The club had a poor season so far.

Marcelo Bielsa did a tremendous job at the Whites and he has been out of work for eight months. The Argentine can make a return to English football.

According to Jacobs, the list of replacements for Steven Gerrard was drawn up weeks ago in light of their disastrous start to the season, and Bielsa’s name was among those shortlisted.

While speaking on Off The Ball, he said: “Sean Dyche will be linked to Aston Villa as well, and then an outsider to keep an eye on is Marcelo Bielsa, the former Leeds manager. It’s an open race at the moment, but a lot of the legwork in terms of shortlists and candidates was done weeks ago.”

Neither Leeds fans nor Villa fans will be particularly thrilled by these links as the two clubs have a little bit of history since the controversial incident back in 2019.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa are also considering former Tottenham Hotspur and PSG manager, Mauricio Pochettino. He was linked with Man United but the club preferred Erik tan Heg over him. He is free now since his departure from PSG.

Ahead of the World Cup break, Aston Villa will have league matches against Brentford, Newcastle, Manchester United and Brighton. They will also face Man United again at Old Trafford in the third round of the Carabao Cup.
