Mario Gotze is hailed by Reds boss Klopp

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has fuelled speculation that the Reds will make a bid for Bayern Munich’s out-of-favour Martio Gotze.

The 23-year-old, who scored the winning goal for Germany at the 2014 World Cup, has been linked with Liverpool for some time, as speculation continues to grow.

And Klopp, speaking ahead of the Red’s visit to the Westfalenstadion, where they face Borussia Dortmund in the Europa League quarter-final, believes the German is a player with “extraordinary abilities”.

However, the 48-year-old hasn’t confirmed the Reds will make a move for the Bayern forward this summer.

Changing the subject

“We can talk about Joel Matip or something else, but not Mario,” Klopp said.

“I am happy that he put in a good performance yesterday but there is nothing to add from my side.

“He’s a player with extraordinary abilities and wants to return to full fitness after four months on the sidelines.”

Gotze could well decide to stay at the Allianz Arena this summer, where he has fell out of favour with manager Pep Guardiola, when the Spaniard leaves for Manchester City at the end of the season, with Carlo Ancelotti set to take over.

After a season of little football, the German has made 12 appearances, scoring four goals, which is a good ratio for a player that has had a stop-start season, under Guardiola and with injuries.
