According to Fotboll Skanalen, Leeds United defender Gabriel Gudmundsson missed training with Sweden on Thursday as a “safety measure” after appearing to sustain an injury while playing for his country.
In an attempt to move up from the bottom of Group B, Sweden is getting ready to play Switzerland in World Cup qualification on Saturday before hosting Slovenia the following week. Gudmundsson, who started both of Sweden’s last two games back in October, was probably going to play for Graham Potter’s team.
After joining Daniel Farke’s team during the summer transfer window from Lille, the 26-year-old has proven to be an excellent addition. The Swedish international has since established himself as a mainstay in the starting lineup, appearing in all 11 of Leeds’ Premier League games this year.
Gudmundsson was absent from training on Thursday owing to an injury, according to the Swedish publication Fotboll Skanalen. The absence was justified as a “safety measure”.
Due to “a feeling”, Gudmundsson was unable to attend their practice, and Sweden has obviously made the decision not to take the chance of him exacerbating the possible injury. Fortunately for Leeds fans, it doesn’t seem to be a major issue.
Leeds United player misses Sweden national team training
Gudmundsson’s health is probably going to be a major topic of discussion during the news conference that Sweden boss Potter is anticipated to conduct prior to his team’s weekend trip to Switzerland. The Leeds defender, who joined Leeds from Lille in the summer, has been outstanding under Jon Dahl Tomasson and has been playing often.
Ten days from Thursday, on Sunday, Leeds will meet Aston Villa at Elland Road. If Gudmundsson suffers a concussion, he may not be able to play. After more evaluation, the left-back can also be cleared to play for his nation and return to West Yorkshire undamaged.
Only three players—Jayden Bogle, Joe Rodon, and Gudmundsson—have started every Premier League game since joining Leeds. During that period, there have been a few small injury worries, but he has always been able to play without missing any action.
Given how quickly Gudmundsson has adapted to life at Elland Road, Leeds will be anxious for him to maintain that run. The seasoned left-back has been the most reliable summer addition, and he and important striker Noah Okafor are already developing a solid combination.
