Simpson claims Jota was lucky to evade the offside rule on Saturday

Leicester City right-back Danny Simpson claims that Wolverhampton‘s Diogo Jota was lucky when the Portuguese international netted the winner in the enthralling 4-3 win.

Jota bagged a hat-trick to help Wolves claim all three points against the Foxes on Saturday,  scoring an injury-time winner after Leicester had managed to claw their way back into the game twice.

Jota was in an offside position initially when Ruben Neves’s inch-perfect pass found Jimenez on the right flank, causing the City defence line to push forward. However, he was well onside when he laid the finishing touches to Jimenez’s square pass, sparking controversy about the offside rule.

Simpson told Leicester live: “At 3-3 going into added time you have to take the point there,” said Simpson.

“If we had taken the point it would have been a good feeling coming into the dressing room. It would have felt like a win to us because of the circumstances of the game, and probably a defeat to them. They would have been disappointed.

“The lad has been offside and he probably can’t believe his luck. I don’t think it was planned.

“He was coming back from the move before. I don’t think he was being clever, I think he was probably tired and just couldn’t get back onside and it came from nowhere.

“It was a great finish but disappointing. They are a good team, but we are a good team and if you score three goals away from home you deserve a point.

“At 3-3 we need to learn how to slow the game down, be horrible and take time out of the game, take a yellow card.

“We will learn from it.”
