It has been a mixed season for Premier League champions Leicester City. Their inconsistent domestic form is a stark contrast to their Champions League success, where they are guaranteed to finish top of their group after victory over Club Brugge last night.
Foxes and England midfielder Danny Drinkwater has been hit by the FA with a violent conduct charge.
The incident occurred in the 67th minute of the Foxes’s 2-1 defeat at Vicarage Road on Saturday. He is alleged to have elbowed Watford’s Valon Behrami. The incident was not seen by the match officials. but was caught on video, which meant the FA could take retrospective action.
England international Drinkwater, 26, has until 18:00 GMT to reply to the charge and faces a ban if found guilty.
If found guilty, Drinkwater would be facing a three-match ban, which would rule him out of games against Manchester City, Middlesbrough and Sunderland.
Drinkwater has been an ever-present for Leicester this season, but this potential suspension, added to Nampalys Mendy still not fully fit from his ankle injury, means Claudio Ranieri may be short of numbers in central midfield.
The Italian would have just Andy King and Daniel Amartey as available central midfielders while defenders Robert Huth and Danny Simpson are one caution away from bans.
