Jurgen Klopp offers creative solution to Liverpool’s set-piece problems

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp earned rave reviews tonight when he was a guest on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football programme tonight.

Klopp, alongside regular pundit Jamie Carragher and presenter David Jones, was insightful, enthralling, and his usual charismatic self.

When asked about the Reds’ inability to defend set-pieces this season, the German came up with a creative solution.

Klopp said: ‘Most of the goals conceded were during the early stages. When I first came here we had to change a few things – and we had to play against set specialists like West Brom and Crystal Palace.

‘There is no solution. We do not have the tallest team in the league.’

When asked if he had a solution for this, he jokingly added: ‘Make them taller!’

‘We’ve improved but we don’t have the physical quality of players for set piece defending so we have to be more creative,’ he added.

‘At Dortmund we had a lot of man marking because we had a lot of tall players – here we had to find a different solution.

‘We do it much better in training. We’re not finished yet but most teams struggle with this because the quality in England is intense and different to other countries in the six-yard box.’
