The Reds are set to let the 20-year-old leave for free at the end of the season
Liverpool with release 20-year-old Daniel Trickett-Smith this summer, having spent £1 million to bring him to the club from Crewe Alexandra in 2012.
The midfielder is set to leave Anfield, before even making it into the first team, while some of his fellow teammates, who he played alongside in the FA Youth Cup semi-final in 2013 – Jordon Ibe, Jordan Rossiter and Jerome Sinclair – have all made appearances under Jurgen Klopp.
The German boss, who arrived at Anfield in October, gave a large number of young players their chance in the Reds’ FA Cup tie away to Exeter City, but Rickett-Smith was not one of those men.
And four years on from joining the club, and being given a three-year pro contract a year later, he is now free to leave Anfield.
Terriers take interest
But all isn’t so bad for Rickett-Smith, with Huddersfield Town reportedly interested in taking him to the Championship – who are managed by Klopp’s friend and former assistant David Wagner.
The 20-year-old was tipped to be Liverpool’s future number 10, but with the likes of Adam Lallana, Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino all arriving during the midfielder’s time at Anfield, he has been left with a tough task to fight for a place in the team.
However, all is not lost for Rickett-Smith, as the creative midfielder will hope to follow in the footsteps of a number of Liverpool trainees, who failed to make the grade but managed to enjoy good careers elsewhere.
Most notably Stephen Warnock, Tom Ince and Rickie Lambert, who ended up returning to his boyhood club from Southampton, for a spell, in 2014.
