Jurgen Klopp says Nathaniel Clyne will be available for Man United game

Nathaniel Clyne is back to training this week and there are high chances that he might be available for Liverpool’s weekend clash against Manchester United at Anfield. Liverpool currently face a burn out of options at the back following the ankle injury to Trent Alexander Arnold against Napoli on Tuesday.

Joel Matip and Joe Gomez are also struggling with injuries and are unlikely to play a part on Sunday. James Milner, who played as the right-back against Bournemouth, might also fill in the boots once again this week.

Clyne has fallen out of favour under Jurgen Klopp since the start of the last season. The 27-year-old former Southampton man was a regular for Liverpool in the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons but made only 3 appearances in the Premier League last term.

While injuries have played a major part in his slip down the pecking order, the emergence of Alexander Arnold has further relegated him to bench duty. The right-back is yet to make an appearance in the Premier League this season with his only appearance coming against Chelsea in the League Cup.

“With Trent [Alexander-Arnold], it’s not as serious as it is with the other boys,” Klopp told reporters.

“Joel [Matip] was injured in the last second of the game. For Trent, it’s day-by-day. We will find a solution at the weekend.

“Clyney was unfortunately injured for the last two or three weeks – nothing serious but serious enough that he couldn’t train.

“He has been in training for four days – is he ready for 90 minutes? I don’t know. But he is ready. He is a very experienced player.

“We have other options as well so we will not push Clyney through after his longest spell of training.
