Liverpool boss to leave star striker out of trip to Bordeaux

Brendan Rodgers will leave summer signings Christian Benteke and James Milner out of Liverpool’s trip to Bordeaux in the Europa League.

It is understood the Irishman is more keen to focus on Liverpool’s important upcoming home game against Norwich City, having lost their last two games against West Ham and Manchester United last Saturday.

The Reds side to  face Ligue 1’s Bordeaux is still expected to feature some key names, however, Milner and Benteke are considered to be two stars who will be rested in preparation for Saturday’s visit by the Canaries.

Defensive duo’s trip to France on hold

Rodgers is yet to make a final decision on right-back Nathaniel Clyne and Martin Skrtel, who could travel as the Reds start their Europa League campaign.

Benteke will be a big miss for the Reds, who start their European campaign away from home, after the Belgian scored a sensational overhead kick against bitter rivals United at the weekend.

Liverpool were drawn in Group B, alongside Rubin Kazan, Sion and Thursday’s opponents, Bordeaux.
