The Reds midfielder is in talks to move north of the border

Liverpool midfielder Jordan Rossiter is set to leave Anfield this summer and join Rangers, who will make their return to the Scottish Premier League next season.

It is set to cost the former Scottish champions just ÂŁ250,000 in compensation, with FIFA rules allowing the player to talk to clubs outside of England, while it would have gone to a tribunal had Rossiter wanted to join another English side.

The Gers boss Mark Warburton was given a glowing report about the midfielder, who was tipped to become the next Steven Gerrard at Anfield, by the club’s head of recruitment, Frank McParland.

However, Rossiter has failed to make the desired impression on Jurgen Klopp, after the German arrived at Anfield in October, making just one appearance under the new boss, in a Europa League group stage match against FC Sion back in December.

The 19-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and Rangers officially contacted Liverpool, letting the Reds know of their intent to open negotiations with the former England under-19.

An injury-plagued season has stopped the midfielder from making the progress he would have liked under Klopp, having been handed his debut by former boss Brendan Rodgers against Middlesbrough in a League Cup tie at Anfield in September 2014.

He became the club’s second-youngest goalscorer, at 17, scoring on his debut, but has gone on to make just five senior appearances for the club – having made his Premier League debut against Arsenal, back in August.

But, all is not lost for Rossiter, who looks set on joining Rangers at Ibrox, as they make their top-flight return, after a financial crisis saw them sent to the third division of English football, back in 2012.
