Rio Ferdinand praises Sterling and Rashford for driving social change
Praising footballers such as Marcus Rashford, Raheem Sterling, and Trent Alexander-Arnold for using their platforms to affect change, Ferdinand said: “It’s not going to be just the players who are going to make change. There needs to be a movement.”
Rashford won broad recognition for utilizing his own social media platforms to drive a battle compelling the United Kingdom government to make feast vouchers accessible to schoolchildren outside of term time.
‘They don’t make change over a long period of time, because the foundations of that aren’t in education. I believe that education has to be at the real foundations of that. It has to be in the curriculum, the government have to get behind it.”
‘These players, yes they have to be at the forefront of it, but side by side, next to them needs to be… the sport broadcasters, the FA, the Premier League.”
“I’ve been involved in many a moment that are here today, gone tomorrow. This feels like there’s some sort of change and momentum coming.”
