Jose Mourinho in dramatic backtrack over midfielder

Bastian Schweinsteiger must have feared the worst when this season started.

Facing the axe from Manchester United after being exiled by Jose Mourinho, the former German international was not even allowed to train with the club’s reserve side. He was even omitted from United’s official team photograph. The FA Cup, which United won last season, was also missing from the photo, but it could be argued that the famous trophy had been treated a lot better than the midfielder!

However, that all seems to change, as today Schweinsteiger was finally allowed to train with the senior squad again, as Mourinho bids to turn around United’s inconsistent start to the season.

The midfield seems pretty congested at Old Trafford this season, with Ander Herrera, Michael Carrick, Marouane Fellaini, Morgan Schneiderlin and Paul Pogba, in addition to Schweinsteiger all vying for starting spots.

Schweinsteiger is not in United’s Europa League squad this season, meaning his opportunities appeared even more limited. But the news of him being able to get back into training is good news for the club.
