Manchester United dealt blow as Real Madrid star signs new contract

Manchester United have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Gareth Bale after the Welshman signed a new deal at Real Madrid.

United have been linked with Bale for seemingly forever, even though it would surely take a monumental amount to prise him away from the Bernabeu.

Now it seems as though Bale will not be going anywhere, after penning a new contract until 2022, worth an eye-watering £350,000 per week.

Bale arrived at Real from Tottenham in 2013, and has since helped the La Liga side win two Champions League titles, in 2014 and 2016.

“Real Madrid C. F. and Gareth Bale have agreed an extension to the player’s contract, keeping him at the club until the 30th of June 2022,” Madrid said on their official website.

“Tomorrow, Monday at 1:30pm, Gareth Bale will appear at a press conference in the media room at the Santiago Bernabéu.”

The news of Bale’s new contract is a fresh blow to United, not enjoying the best of seasons under Jose Mourinho.
