Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is interested in a couple of Monaco stars who helped to end neighbours City’s Champions League dreams for another season.

Kylian Mbappe and Tiemoue Bakayoko both scored in the principality last night, as the French side beat City 3-1, to go through on the away goals rule, the aggregate score ending 6-6.

The Red Devils sent scout Marcel Bout to watch the pair, and he will surely have been impressed with what he saw.

United are reportedly looking for fresh firepower to take some off the pressure off Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and Mbappe, 18, is having a fantastic season. He has just earned his first call-up to the French national side. He is the first player born after France’s 1998 World Cup triumph to be named. Arsenal are also said to be interested, with Arsene Wenger admitting that the Gunners had a bid turned down for Mbappe last summer.

Bakayoko, 22, a tenacious midfielder, could be seen by United fans as being able to form a dynamic midfield trio with Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba. The star is also attracting the attentions of Chelsea. He has worked his way up through France’s international setup, with caps up to Under-21 level.

Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyev said on Wednesday night that the Ligue 1 club hope to hold on to Mbappe.

United are also in the market for Atletico Madrid hitman Antoine Griezmann, and Mourinho has told Executive Vice-Chairman Ed Woodward that he is top of the Portuguese’s wanted list.
