Following the dismissal of Sean Dyche after just 114 days in command, Nottingham Forest has begun negotiations with former Wolves manager Vitor Pereira. With 12 games left, Forest are three points above the Premier League relegation zone after being held to a goalless draw at home by bottom-place Wolves on Wednesday.

Pereira, who previously worked at Olympiacos in Greece alongside Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis, is a strong candidate to succeed Dyche, according to sources who spoke to BBC Sport. Pereira, 57, entered midway through the season and was credited with keeping Wolves in the Premier League, but he was fired in November when Wolves had two points from ten games.

After firing Nuno Espirito Santo in September and Ange Postecoglou in October, Forest is now looking for their fourth permanent head coach of the season as a result of Dyche’s departure.

In a statement, the Nottingham Forest Football Club said, “We would like to thank Sean and his staff for their efforts during their time at the club, and we wish them the best of luck for the future. We can confirm that Sean Dyche has been relieved of his duties as head coach.” At this point, we won’t be commenting more.

Forest open Pereira talks after sacking Dyche

Nuno was fired three games into the 2025–26 season, and Postecoglou took over, however he was only in the position for 39 days. With Forest in 18th place in the standings after only one victory in eight games during a challenging season debut, Dyche took charge at the City Ground.

Following a 2-0 loss to Bournemouth in his first game as manager, Dyche guided Forest out of the drop zone with four victories and one draw in their following seven games. Following a run of four straight losses, Dyche’s team bounced back with a four-game winning streak, which included a resolute goalless draw with leaders Arsenal and a 2-1 victory at fellow struggling West Ham.

However, Forest has remained stuck in the relegation fight due to Leeds United and West Ham’s improved play. With four victories, two draws, and two losses in their eight games, Forest advanced to the knockout stage by finishing 13th in the Europa League group standings. This month, they play Turkish team Fenerbahce in two legs with a chance to advance to the round of sixteen. The opening match is scheduled for Thursday, February 19.
