Sadio Mane has revealed he had a chat with Roberto Firrmino prior to the game against Paris Saint Germain and requested the player to play with one eye in the Champions League opener on Tuesday.
Firmino’s involvement in the game was in severe danger following the player’s injury in the 2-1 win against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League. The player collided with Spurs defender Jan Vertonghen and ended having an abrasion in the eye.
He was hospitalized for the treatment of his injury and later was released from the hospital. But keeping in mind of the hectic schedule Jurgen Klopp decided to move cautiously and the player eventually turned up for the game.
Firmino replaced Daniel Sturridge in the game and went on to score the winner in the added minutes. Mane admitted he did send a text to the Brazilian to convince him. “I think Bobby doesn’t need his eye to play so I told him.
“I sent him a message on Monday saying, ‘Hey Bobby, come on, we need you’.
“You’ve all seen the ‘no look’ goals so I think he doesn’t need his eye to play. I texted him saying, ‘You don’t need your eye’.”
