The winger came close to a move to Stamford Bridge

Shakhtar Donetsk winger Taison claims he came close to joining Chelsea, but visa issues stopped him moving to the Premier League.

The 28-year-old was reportedly set to join the Blues in January 2013, however, the Brazilian subsequently made a move to Shakhtar Donetsk for $20 million.

At the time it was understood the Ukranian club had activated the Brazilian’s £12.4 million release clause, which Chelsea had failed to do, with the Blues offering around £8.5 million.

However, the winger has since admitted that it was a problem with obtaining a work permit that forced him to move elsewhere, from his club at the time Metalist Kharkiv.

“I always had the dream of playing in the Premier League.” Taison admitted.

“I almost went to Chelsea but the transfer didn’t happen because of the foreign limit on the passport.

EPL still interests Taison

However, despite the Brazilian failing to secure a work permit back in 2013, he has admitted that he would still liked to play in the Premier League, one day.

“I have to keep working, teams are watching me. As I said, the aim is to do well in the Europa League for something better.” Taison admitted.

Fellow Brazilians Luiz Adrian, Douglas Costa and Alex Teixeira have all made their names at Shakhtar, before making big money moves, and, with eight goals and 14 assists for the 28-year-old this campaign, he will hope to again attract interest from England sooner or later.
