Rosenior urges Tottenham to hijack Chelsea target Wilson

Sky Sports pundit Liam Rosenior has urged Tottenham Hotspur to make an attempt to hijack Chelsea target Callum Wilson to cover for the injury to Harry Kane.

England captain Kane suffered an ankle injury in Spurs’ 1-0 defeat to Manchester United and is likely to be out of action at least until early March.

The injury to Kane has come at the worst possible time for Spurs, with the Lilywhites likely to be without the services of their talisman for the round of 16 clash against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League, Premier League clashes against Arsenal and Chelsea and also the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Chelsea.

With Heung-min Son also away on international duty with South Korea, Spurs face an uphill battle to cope with the absence of their star duo up front and Rosenior has urged the Lilywhites to dip into the transfer market to snap up Bournemouth hitman Callum Wilson.

Rosenior told The Debate: ”I praised Tottenham in the summer because they realised they had an outstanding head coach who has performed nothing short of a miracle to be in a position where they can even challenge Liverpool and Manchester City.

“But now they are in a position where they have to do something. Whether Spurs fans like it or not there’s a huge, huge football club who have Pochettino at the top of their shortlist for the summer.

“I’ve been saying for a long time, there’s going to become a point with the quality they’ve got where it’ll come to a tipping point and they need to make a decision.

“I look at Callum Wilson who has been linked to clubs and think he’s the perfect fit for Tottenham. He’s young enough and is of a profile where he would be delighted to have the chance to play for a club like Tottenham.

“He gives them the pace that they need to run in behind and I wouldn’t be surprised if they do put a marker down and show everyone they want to keep Pochettino at the club and build for the future.

“January is such a difficult window. I think the Tottenham fans will be desperate for the club to step forward and bring someone in.

“Mauricio Pochettino has done such a good job. Last season they were minutes away from knocking Juventus out of the Champions League and this squad, I am desperate for them to take the next step.

“He’s done a fantastic job but now is the time to make that mark, make that step and say: ‘We’re here and we want to be here for a long time’.”
