Tottenham are considering a £36m summer move for Atletico Madrid star Saul Niguez, according to reports.
Defensive midfielder Niguez, 21, is being targeted by the North London club, who want to offer him a deal to make him their highest-ever paid player.
The player, who AS claim Atletico want to tie down to a new long-term deal, has helped his side reach the Champions League final in Milan, where they will play city rivals Real.
Niguez has a £36m release clause in his contract, and only signed a new five-year deal with Atletico last year.
Atletico president Enrique Cerezo is adamant that Niguez is not going anywhere.
‘Saul has a contract with us,’ Cerezo said.
‘He’s a player from our academy and is Atletico through and through. From what I know, and from what he himself has told me, he wants to stay with us.’
Niguez started his youth career at Real Madrid, before switching to Atletico soon after.
Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is keen to strengthen his squad ahead of mounting an assault both domestically and in the Champions League next season.
