The Tottenham Hotspur team announced on Wednesday that Thomas Frank had been fired as head coach. After eight months in command, he resigns, with Spurs now in 16th place in the Premier League after Tuesday’s 2-1 loss to Newcastle United at home. Frank, 52, faced chants of “you’re getting sacked in the morning” from Spurs fans who also sang the name of former manager Mauricio Pochettino as they slipped to an 11th league defeat of the season.

“The club has taken the decision to make a change in the Men’s Head Coach position and Thomas Frank will leave today,” read a club statement. “We have been committed to providing Thomas with the time and assistance he needs to prepare for the future since his appointment in June 2025.

But the board has decided that a change is required at this stage of the season based on performance and outcomes. The club has not yet decided on a replacement plan, but at this early stage, an interim appointment is seen to be more plausible, sources told ESPN. A fuller statement from CEO Vinai Venkatesham is anticipated later on Wednesday.

De Zerbi is leading contenders after Tottenham sack Frank

In Tuesday’s 2-1 home loss to Newcastle, Spurs fans sang Pochettino’s name throughout Frank’s last game as manager. They made it plain that they would be happy to have the manager they had so much success with for a little over five seasons starting in 2014 return.

The manager of the USA, Pochettino, is getting ready for the World Cup this summer. He won’t be able to avoid his obligations, although he and Iraola at Bournemouth will both have contracts that expire after the competition. Prior to hiring Frank last summer, Spurs considered Iraola, but he made it apparent that he was committed to Bournemouth.

Just before the announcement of Frank’s Spurs departure, the French team confirmed that De Zerbi had departed Marseille. After Paris Saint-Germain crushed his club 5-0 on Sunday, he felt compelled to apologise to the supporters. De Zerbi plays an open and aggressive style, has Premier League experience from a good stint at Brighton, and feels like a chance for Spurs.
