A report has made a new claim about the future of West Ham United star Manuel Lanzini.
West Ham midfielder Manuel Lanzini is close to doubling his wages at West Ham as he and the club are close to agreeing a new and improved contract for the Argentina international.
West Ham enjoyed a busy summer transfer window, where manager Manuel Pellegrini strengthened his squad and added some quality new faces.
Sebastien Haller and Pablo Fornals are two new marquee additions at the London Stadium, with Albian Ajeti and Goncalo Cardoso also fresh options within the squad. But it’s the re-emergence of playmaker Manuel Lanzini at the beginning of the campaign that looks more important than any new signing.
The Hammers missed Lanzini for a large spell of the 2018/19 campaign due to injury and he played 10 times as he was eased back to fitness towards the back-end of the season.
As the Argentine has played every minute of the opening two league games this season and shown impressive signs since returning from injury, West Ham are set to offer him a new long-term contract doubling his wages.
Sky Sports reports that Lanzini’s deal at the London Stadium expires next summer, but the Irons have an option to extend his terms by a further two years. Nevertheless, West Ham are keen to tie him down for even longer beyond 2022.
The playmaker has contributed to 33 goals in his 100 games in the Premier League during his time at West Ham, and while director of football Mario Husillos and co-owner David Sullivan have undoubtedly helped Pellegrini build a squad full of attacking talent, a player who has shown he can perform time and again at the highest level must be held onto.
