Madrid to compete against United and Arsenal for William Carvalho

Real Madrid have apprently joined Manchester United and Arsenal in the race for William Carvalho.

The Spanish giants have apparently been scouting the Sporting Lisbon star for a while. The Portuguese has also been linked with moves to Old Trafford and The Emirates, and is valued by Lisbon at ÂŁ32million, however neither Premier League club have made a bid.

However, it is thought Madrid are unhappy with the valuation made, meaning if they successfully fail to negotiate a deal, it could affect Liverpool’s proposed ÂŁ16million move for Asier Illaramendi. New Madrid boss Rafa Benitez will not be letting him go until he has a replacement.

Carvalho was recently named player of the tournament at the Under 21 European Championships as he helped guide his national side to the final – losing to Sweden on penalties.

Born in Angola, Carvalho was eligible to play for the the African country but instead chose to represent Portugal – the country he moved to at an early age – and to date has 13 caps to his name.
