The Manchester City player admits he is being put through his paces at the Etihad

Bacary Sagna is enjoying a good run in the side whilst Pablo Zabaleta is out with an injury.

The right-back left the Gunners on a free transfer back in 2014, much to the dismay of a number of Arsenal fans who said he was going there for the money.

However the 32-year-old says he is not happy with just being a squad player and is loving his current spell in the team.

“I never thought about it [leaving City] because I came here for the challenge,” he said.

“I’m someone who likes to challenge themselves and it was the right time to do it.

Sunderland 1-4 Manchester City

City manager Manuel Pellegrini quickly squashed any suggestions he was not going to take the League Cup seriously by naming a strong starting XI.

Yaya Toure, Kevin De Bruyne, Raheem Sterling and Sergio Aguero were amongst the team which came out for the first half at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland’s defensive frailties reared their ugly head once again, when Patrick Van Aanholt brought down Jesus Navas in the box, before Aguero fired home from the penalty spot in the 9th minute.

A Vito Mannone own goal was sandwiched between goals from De Bruyne and Sterling as the visitors established a commanding 4-0 lead going into the interval.

Ola Toivonen’s consolation goal in the 83rd minute failed to prevent the Black Cats from slumping to a fifth defeat in eight matches.
