Claude Puel has expressed his displeasure at the state of Ligue 1.

Ever since the arrival of middle east owners at PSG, the club has overtaken the league completely.

The sheer difference in quality between the clubs in terms of quality is embarrassing. PSG are overwhelming favorites every season to win everything domestically.

The competition has indeed become so easy that even if the club runs close or finishes second, it is considered a massive failure.

While a similar set up can be seen at Bundesliga with Bayern, it must be remembered that Bayern are a historically giant club whereas PSG where nobodies a decade back.

There was in fact big clubs like Lyon, Lille, Marseille and a few others and the French competition was intense. Puel has now called out the lack of competition at France.

He said, “Ligue 1 has become a laboratory, a youth academy for the four leagues that are better than we are, England, Spain, Germany and Italy. Now, we don’t need to be too hard on it either. In an economy that has changed and where, with the exception of PSG and Lyon a bit, no team is capable today of retaining their squad’s backbone for two or three seasons, to keep its best players and to retain its talents for a long time, we simply have what we could have and what we deserve. We are in a permanent state of urgency, and that starts with the managers.”
