Marco Verratti might be fit to face Man United in the Champions League

According to French sources, PSG have been handed a massive boost ahead of their Champions League last 16 fixture against Man United next month, with Marco Verratti closing in on a return to action ahead of schedule.

Verratti suffered an ankle sprain in PSG’s 9-0 demolition of relegation contenders Guingamp and it was feared that the Italian could be forced to sit out for the club’s trip to Old Trafford in the Champions League.

However, reports claim that the Italian is recovering rapidly from his injury and he no longer feels the pain.

Verratti is likely to be out for PSG’s clash against Lyon on Sunday but he will be expected to make his return as a substitute when the Ligue 1 leaders take on Bordeaux on February 9, three days before they travel to Manchester United.

The news would bring a sigh of relief to the PSG fans and manager Thomas Tuchel, who has repeatedly bemoaned the lack of transfer activity to bolster his midfield options.

Tuchel has been forced to use the Brazilian duo of Marquinhos and Dani Alves in central midfield to cover for the absence of Adrien Rabiot, Verratti and Lassana Diarra.

Although Verratti is likely to be back to face Man United in the Champions League, Neymar’s chances of regaining fitness from his metatarsal injury before the trip to Old Trafford remains very slim indeed.
