The goalkeeper joins for a year and the French club have an option to buy.
Not only Navas, but Paris Saint Germain have also announced via their official channels the signing of Sergio Rico.
It will be the 26-year-old’s second successive season away from Sevilla as he spent 2018-19 on loan at Fulham where he became the first-choice goalkeeper, playing 29 Premier League matches, but could not save the London side from relegation.
Rico, who made more than 160 appearances during a four-year spell in Spain, will have to fight for a place in his new team with Keylor Navas, the spectacular goalkeeper that moved to Paris in a swap deal for Alphonse Areola. He will also link up in the dressing room with Pablo Sarabia, his former Sevilla team-mate.
“I am very happy to have signed for Paris Saint-Germain. Everyone in Europe knows how big the club has grown in recent years,” he told his new team’s official website.
“It is an honor to be a member of this playing squad, that includes so many of my compatriots. I will give my maximum every day to help my new club achieve as much success as possible, in France and in Europe. This is a magnificent next chapter for my career that begins on the day of my 26th birthday.”
Marca highlight the goalkeeper’s ‘deterioration of his relationship with the club’s fans’ as a key reason behind their decision to move him on this summer. They had attempted to sell Rico on a permanent deal but no buyer had emerged and late in the window the Parisian club approached Sevilla with the proposal of the loan arrangement with an option to buy for an undisclosed fee.
