Lionel Messi ruled out of PSG’s clash against Metz.

The 34-year old forward will be out for the French side after sustaining a knee injury in his last game against Lyon.

He has yet to score a Ligue 1 goal in this campaign and was substituted in the Lyon game which raised questions on Pochettino’s decision.

He underwent an MRI scan on Tuesday which revealed that he has a slight bruise on his left knee.

PSG said in a statement: “Lionel Messi, following a knock received on his left knee, had an MRI this morning which confirms the signs of a bone bruise.

“A new scan will be performed in 48 hours.”

Messi who joined PSG on a free transfer has failed to score a goal or an assist in his first four games for the French club.

The Argentine is hopeful of returning on time for the Champions League clash against Man City next week.

Pochettino said: “I took the decision to take Leo [Messi] off to protect him for possible injuries.

“We have important games coming up and we want to protect him. These are decisions we make for the good of the team. Sometimes the players agree and sometimes they don’t. Afterward, Messi told me he was fine with the decision.”
