Former France striker Thierry Henry has reportedly turned down the opportunity to become the head coach of Bordeaux. Bordeaux offered Henry the job a few days back after suspending Gus Poyet. Poyet called the club a ‘disgrace’ after they sold striker Gaetan Laborde to their rivals Montpellier without informing him.

When offered the job, the former Arsenal star told the club that he needed some time to think. However, earlier today, he decided not to take it. Bordeaux will next turn their attention to former Chelsea and Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri.

Reports suggest that Thierry Henry was concerned regarding the availability of the club’s funds and lack of ownership of the club. There is a possibility that Bordeaux might be sold to investment fund General American Capital Partners.

Henry is currently the assistant coach of the Belgium national football team. He helped the team attain their best ever World Cup finish this summer as the team came 3rd in the tournament.

Bordeaux registered their first win of Ligue 1 by beating Monaco 2-1 thanks to a late winner from Guinean striker Francois Kamano. This win put an end to the club’s losing streak. Bordeaux began their Ligue 1 campaign with defeats to Strasbourg and Toulouse. They are currently 15th in the table and face Rennes on Sunday.
