Mario Mandzukic was set to leave Juventus to join Manchester United, but the deal failed to conclude.

After opting against a United switch, the Croatia international has held talks about a possible return to Bayern Munich this summer.

Sky Sport Italia have suggested that Bayern have explored the possibility of bringing the striker back to the Allianz Arena to provide competition for Robert Lewandowski. While, in order to balance the books, Juventus are reportedly hoping to collect up to €15 million from the possible sale of a player who does not belong in the new boss Sarri’s plans.

The 33-year-old striker had agreed personal terms with Manchester United last week, ahead of his proposed move to the Premier League, as part of a deal involving both Romelu Lukaku and Paulo Dybala. However, the deal collapsed, as the English side pulled the plug after struggling to reach a compromise on the financial aspects and the wage demands of the involved players.

Now that the Premier League transfer windows is officially shut, Mandzukic has been rumored to be seeking a move away elsewhere.

Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain have also emerged as possible suitors for Mandzukic in recent weeks but according to the reports in Germany, it is now highly unlikely the 33-year-old will be heading to the Westfalenstadion, nor the Parc des Princes.

The Croatia international joined Bayern from Wolfsburg in 2012 and went on to score 48 goals in 88 games before leaving for Atletico Madrid in 2014. After one season in Spain he moved to Juventus, where he has remained since.
